One Source, One Location
Keyhole Limpet Hemocyanin (KLH) is a vitally important pharmaceutical protein. And yet the extreme complexity and size of the KLH molecule makes it unsuitable for synthetic production. KLH must be purified from its natural source, the hemolymph of the scarce marine mollusk Megathura crenulata, commonly known as the Giant Keyhole Limpet.
In the wild, the Giant Keyhole Limpet is native only to a limited stretch of Pacific Ocean coastline along Southern California and Baja California. Its natural habitat is the rocky, shallow depths below low tide line.
Industry-Leading Stellar KLH™
Stellar Biotechnologies is committed to the advancement of aquaculture science and KLH production, specifically focused on protection of the Giant Keyhole Limpet and the non-harmful extraction of KLH protein.
Stellar Biotechnologies applied decades of specialized aquaculture science to a pharmaceutical industry challenge – how to ensure sustainable supply of a vital pharmaceutical molecule while protecting its precious natural source.
The result: Stellar’s KLH production capabilities are unique and industry-leading. We developed the proprietary ability to sustainably produce GMP grade KLH, and we set unprecedented benchmarks for its manufacture and supply.
This is the hallmark of our business model. A commercial-scale system capable of ensuring future supply of KLH protein that meets pharmaceutical industry standards for immune response, consistency, purity, and traceability.
