Overview of Stellar’s Aquaculture Facilities
Stellar Biotechnologies, Inc.’s proprietary aquaculture systems for cultivation of Megathura crenulata consist of two separate, independent facilities which were designed to meet different culture criteria. The company also operates a KLH extraction/purification facility for the processing of hemolymph and KLH intermediates. These three facilities are located on separate adjoining ground leases within the City of Port Hueneme Aquaculture Business Park, a City-managed development restricted to marine-dependant businesses. Each of the three leaseholds currently occupied by Stellar includes dedicated access to separate seawater intake supply lines in the common intake structure constructed as part of the park development. Wastewater from the company’s aquaculture systems is discharged back into the ocean under separate EPA-regulated NPDES discharge permits and is monitored to assure that there is no environmental impact from the culture operation.
